Honors and Special Interests:
Dr. Carson is a native of Tampa and a graduate of Plant High School. After completion of his two Fellowships in Sports Medicine, he returned to Tampa in 1983 to begin his practice of Orthopaedic Surgery, Sports Medicine and arthroscopic surgery. In 1985 he founded The Sports Medicine Clinic of Tampa and has been the team physician for many of the professional, collegiate and high school sports teams in the Tampa Bay area, including 11 years as the team orthopaedic surgeon for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is an Affiliate Assistant Professor, Department of General Surgery, Division of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of South Florida College of Medicine and teaches medical students from USF on a weekly basis. Dr. Carson was named Outstanding Clinical Professor, Department of Orthopedics, in 1986 and 1989. He has also been consistently selected as one of the Best Doctors in America (1996-2006) and as one of the Bay Area Best Doctors by Tampa Bay Metro magazine. Dr. Carson has been active with orthopedic education and has published over 60 articles on various topics of sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery. Dr. Carson treats most orthopedic sports injuries and his primary area of surgical expertise is arthroscopic knee surgery.
